Overview and Scrutiny in North West Leicestershire is a politically independent function, designed to provide a check and balance on the Council's Cabinet. This means that Overview and Scrutiny can:
review any local policy, service provision or initiative within the various Committee remits (either individually or as a Joint Overview and Scrutiny)
Call-in' decisions that Overview and Scrutiny feel need extra consideration
Involve residents in decision-making throughout the process
Overview and Scrutiny also plays an important role in holding the Council's partners to account. This includes the local Primary Care Trust and healthcare providers and the Police.
Overview and Scrutiny works through five committees. Each committee is made up of eight councillors. See the links on the left for further details.
The work of these Committees is coordinated by the Scrutiny Commission. The Scrutiny Commission is made up of the Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen of the Scrutiny Committees.
The Committees can set up 'Task and Finish' groups to carry out detailed examination of a particular issue. These groups gather information, make recommendations and report back to the Scrutiny Committee.
What Overview and Scrutiny Doesn't Do
Overview and Scrutiny cannot consider individual service complaints or personal issues with a particular aspect of life in North West Leicestershire. To do so please click here.
It also will not involve itself in anything relating to legal proceedings.
